Clinical Interview for Child Custody: Introduction to Counseling and Psychotherapy

A clinical interview is designed to obtain information and fulfill the purpose of the psychological evaluation. A clinical interview is not counseling or psychotherapy. Although the interview process may be therapeutic in and of itself, the goals are typically not the same. What mistakes did the therapist make? How does the client's perception of her self alter her behavior? How would you characterize her behavior? How do you think she feels about herself? Is she safe to leave?
